The No. 6 Nittany Lions registered their first Big Ten road win of the season, beating Purdue 20-6.
In this one, the Lions played methodical and slow football and, for the most part, it seemed to work.
The offense was led by running back Evan Rosyer, who carried the ball 18 times for 141 yards and a touchdown and caught the ball four times for 53 yards. Royster has consistently proved himself worthy this season and without Royster, this squad would be completely different. QB Darryl Clark also chipped in with 220 yards on 26 passes and a touchdown. Clark had a slow start and is still a little unsure of himself, but you can't ask much more from a first year starter.
For the defense, I'm still not sold. I have a love/hate relationship with this unit. They did hold Curtis Painter and the Purdue offense to only six points and Painter was not able to pick this defense part like he has with every other Big Ten team. But, still I think the unit made some stupid and avoidable mistakes. Such as giving up that six points, that would have been avoided if the Lions stopped trying to arm tackle opponents and just lay them out like Sean Lee or Paul Posluszny. This unit has to shape up, because the schedule only gets tougher from here.
For the Lions, slow and steady worked. They passed and ran the ball well, which is all you can ask for and the defense helped to shut out Painter and company. All in all, a good road performance from the Lions.
THE GOOD: Purdue scoring only 6 points
THE BAD: Purdue's kicker Chris Summers, who missed two field goals and an extra point
THE UGLY: That thing growing on Curtis Painter's lip
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Evan Royster
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Drew Astorino
NEXT UP: The Lions stay on the road to take on the Wisconsin Badgers
